Consultation
Each custom pyrographic piece of art is completely original and unique. Julie generally works on several types of woods including Maple and Birch veneer and boxes and Maple burl. She is also happy to work with you should you have your own wood item or piece of furniture in mind. Ample time is spent with you discussing suitable photographs for portraiture and options for wood or other natural surfaces, such as leather. Julie works tirelessly to make sure you will be happy with the end product before the burning process even begins. If you need assistance with photographing your subject, Julie can offer advice and also make recommendations for professional photographers. And, if you have a unique piece in mind that represents your own artistic vision, feel free to contact Julie directly to discuss.
Photographs may be furnished as high-resolution JPEG or TIF files or by sending the original by postal service. The clearer the photos, the greater the results. Julie's style is in capturing the spirit and character of the subject with extreme care and lifelike detail and craftsmanship. If possible, provide more than one photo for reference. All photos are returned with the finished art.
Pricing & Turnaround
Once your photograph and the wood that best complements it are selected, a price quote is provided based on the estimated time involved with producing the piece, any materials included, such as the wood itself, and shipping and insurance.
A deposit of 50% of the quoted cost is due before the piece is started. Personal checks, money orders and, for your convenience, Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express, are accepted. The balance, including shipping and insurance, is due prior to shipment. Shipments are generally made standard UPS Ground Service.
Most burnings take approximately two weeks to complete, depending on Julie's current workload. Allow approximately three weeks to receive your piece. Quicker turnarounds may require an additional fee. Each finished piece of art is carefully packaged for shipping.
